IMPLEMENTASI EDUKASI HIV BERBASIS “AKU BANGGA AKU TAHU” (ABAT) PADA REMAJA DI MAK MADANI MANADO

HIV/AIDS remains a significant public health challenge, particularly among adolescents, who are often affected by inadequate health literacy and social stigma. This community engagement program aimed to improve adolescents’ knowledge and attitudes toward HIV/AIDS prevention by implementing the ‘Aku Bangga Aku Tahu’ (ABAT) approach. ABAT employs a communicative and persuasive strategy that emphasizes youth empowerment and self-awareness. A participatory community education method was conducted involving 31 students aged 15-18 years through interactive lectures, group discussions, and pre–post assessments measuring knowledge and attitudes. Paired t-test analysis demonstrated statistically significant improvements in both knowledge scores (from 71.67 to 78.06; p = 0.023) and attitude scores (from 11.61 to 13.77; p < 0.001). These provide teachers and school authorities with a clear overview of students' understanding of HIV/AIDS, serving as a baseline for developing sustainable health education programs at MAK Madani Manado. Furthermore, this initiative raised student awareness regarding HIV/AIDS prevention and contributed to reducing stigma against people living with HIV/AIDS. The outputs of this activity include ABAT-based HIV/AIDS educational media, including presentation slides and educational banners, that the school can reuse to support future adolescent health promotion activities.
