Abstract

The market for teen skincare products is growing, but awareness of product safety remains low. As a result, teenagers are at risk of using illegal cosmetics containing hydroquinone, mercury, and Rhodamine B, which can cause irritation, hyperpigmentation, organ damage, and even cancer. This community service project educated female students at Fania Salsabila Vocational High School in Jambi City through preparation, a pre-test, an interactive lecture, handouts, a “Smart Skincare” video, and a post-test. The activity was attended by 67 students divided into two classes using different media. The Wilcoxon test results showed a highly significant difference (p < 0.001) between pre-test and post-test scores in both groups, whether they used video or leaflets. The analysis revealed a very noticeable and significant change in students’ scores following the intervention. Specifically, students’ knowledge scores showed a substantial increase from the pre-test to the post-test. Students who initially lacked understanding gained a much deeper grasp of the material after the learning process. Both media were equally effective; students who learned via video and those who used leaflets alike experienced consistent and uniform improvements in their scores. The intervention using video and leaflets successfully improved students’ understanding significantly. The resulting outputs included increased participant knowledge, a final report, video documentation for social media, and a scientific article published in an accredited national journal.
